Last year a huge learning curve: Virat

irat Kohli's dream run in the last two years culminated with him being named the ODI Cricketer of the Year at the 2012 ICC Awards.

In the ceremony held in Sri Lanka on Sunday, Kohli beat Kumar Sangakkara, MS Dhoni and Lasith Malinga to bag the trophy. After receiving the award, Kohli credited his success to his motto of keeping things simple.

"I think I have tried to keep things as simple as possible and it's worked for me on the field. This year has been a learning curve along the way from the seniors in the team. It's been an all-round effort and I'm very happy to have won this award.

"It's always nice to be recognized by the ICC and it's a great feeling and it's the first time I've won one of these awards and it feels great," Kohli said.

During the period under consideration, Kohli scored 1,733 runs in 31 ODIs with an average of 66.65. He scored eight centuries and six half-centuries with a highest score of 183, against Pakistan in 2012 Asia Cup
